Okay, let me be straightforward about Juspay before anything else. Most people in India use UPI every single day without ever wondering what's running underneath. Juspay is a big part of that answer. They handle payment infrastructure for Swiggy, Amazon, Ola, and a lot of other platforms you already use. So when they say "backend developer," they're not talking about building a small internal tool — they're talking about systems that move real money at real scale.

I think that context matters. Because when you see a backend role at Juspay, it's a different weight than the same title at a random startup.

The Basics

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Backend work at Juspay isn't a "fix tickets and go home" job. They work in Haskell and PureScript — functional programming languages that most colleges don't even teach. That sounds intimidating, but they do train you if you're good at fundamentals. What they care about more is whether you can think in systems — how data flows, where failures happen, how to build things that don't break under load.

You'll be working on payment orchestration — meaning the logic that decides which payment gateway handles which transaction, how retries work, how failures are logged and recovered. It's genuinely complex and genuinely interesting work.

What Skills Do You Need?

Strong DSA is non-negotiable. They ask hard algorithmic questions. Beyond that — understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, and databases helps a lot. If you know any functional programming language, even basics of Scala or Erlang, mention it. It makes your resume stand out.

Communication matters too. Juspay's hiring process includes a problem-solving discussion round, not just a coding test. They want to see how you think out loud.

Should a Fresher Apply?

Yes — but only if you've spent real time on DSA and know your CS fundamentals cold. Juspay isn't a "first tech job" company in the easy sense. But they do hire freshers who can clear their bar. If you're serious about backend engineering and want to work on something that actually matters at scale, this is worth putting effort into.

Honest Take

I wouldn't apply here if you're still figuring out how arrays work. But if you've done competitive programming, built backend projects, and understand how databases work — this is a genuinely strong company to start your career at. The learning curve will be steep. That's the point.
